John Festin – BLOG
Posted By Mike Kieffer on July 22, 2009

John Festin is one of the new candidates for the City Council of Saratoga Springs. He has recently started a blog John Festin for City Council. The first entry of his BLOG is the following Letter to the Residents of Saratoga Springs.
My name is John Festin. I have been a resident of Saratoga Springs for the past four and a half years. I believe that, together, we can make Saratoga Springs a better place to live, work, and play. I am uniquely qualified to help Saratoga Springs move forward. I have proven experience and leadership skills in the business world and as a small business owner.
I have a diverse record of leadership in business, sports and the community. I currently sit as the chairman of the Westlake High School Community Council. I own and operate a successful parking management company and design and operate parking operations for special events all over the country. I have consistently met tight deadlines and budget constraints. This experience will serve me well as your City Councilor. I am highly motivated to bring new, quality organizations to our city that will provide jobs and move our economy forward.
My campaign slogan is “Equality, Accountability and Common Sense”. Equality. I believe that public safety is a major concern for a lot of the residents of Saratoga Springs…both in the police department and fire department. I feel that there have been some unnecessary purchases made within the police department that have made other departments suffer. Therefore, equality in all departments of Saratoga Springs is a must. Accountability. As a small business owner I am held to a high standard and am accountable to a lot of people. My employees, my clients, the IRS, my family etc. I will work as hard for the residents of Saratoga Springs as I do for the people I stated above. With that said, I will also hold all those around me to the same high standard. Finally, Common Sense. One of the most frustrating things to me as a small business owner is when the common sense is taken out of the equation when a decision needs to be made. When I am faced with a decision I take into account three things; 1) How does this effect me and the people around me? 2) How does this effect the short term? 3) How does this effect the long term? This philosophy has helped me be successful as a person and in business. By connecting these three dots in government, like I do personally and professionally, it will enable us as a city to continue to grow and prosper while maintaining the beauty and serenity of Saratoga Springs.
I’m sure many of you have questions of me and I am willing to answer each one of them. I can be contacted by email (john_festin@msn.com) or by cell phone (801-404-0494). Please feel free to contact me at anytime. I not only encourage you to contact me but all of the other highly qualified candidates for Saratoga Springs City Council and Mayor. Now, I would like to pose a question to each of you. I’d like to know what your major concerns are for our city. Is it a) unnecessary spending? b) traffic? c) economic development? d) crime? or e) something else? If it is something else please be specific on what you feel the major challenges our city faces are.
In closing I would like to add a few words that have been spoken of me over the past few years as I have grown my business.
West Valley City Mayor, Dennis Nordfelt said:
“John was very adept in dealing with changing circumstances and unusual situations. He is especially skilled in human relations…In addition he demonstrated great aptitude in handling citizen complaints and concerns. Most importantly, John was a loyal and dependable representative of the City and his honesty and integrity are beyond reproach.”Katy Feeny, Vice President of Major League Baseball said:
“Just a quick note to thank you very much for all your work, time, and courtesies during the All-Star events. You did an outstanding job and were of great assistance even through our chaotic changes.”Please remember that the primary election will take place on September 15, 2009. I would suggest avoiding the lines and voting early. Early voting will take place from September 1, 2009 until September 11, 2009.
Together we can make Saratoga Springs a better place to live, work, and play.
I sincerely appreciate your vote on September 15th.
Kind Regards,
John Festin
